Marion Public Library

Begin a Marion County genealogy journey at Marion Public Library, where the Local History Room offers a wealth of resources for exploring family history and the community’s past. Researchers can discover microfilm, city directories, school yearbooks, maps, obituaries, and more. Established in 1907, the library continues to serve the community with books, programs, information, and services for all ages. Visitors can browse gently used books at the BookMarket, operated by the volunteer Bookmarks organization, or explore the Marion Seed Library, which provides free seeds to eligible Marion County residents. Families may also spot Swoop the owl, the library’s beloved mascot, at children’s programs and special events. From genealogy and local history to gardening, literacy, and community programs, Marion Public Library offers something for a wide range of interests.
