Harding Memorial

The final resting place of President Warren G. Harding and his wife, Florence, the Harding Memorial is a striking monument of Georgia white marble set among graceful elm trees in Marion. Built in 1927 with contributions from millions of donors, the memorial features 46 majestic Doric columns surrounding an open-air circular structure inspired by a Greek temple. At the center, two simple black granite tombstones mark the resting places of President and Mrs. Harding, honoring Harding’s wish for a simple grave beneath the open sky. The surrounding elm trees form a Latin cross, adding another distinctive element to the memorial’s design. Open year-round, the Harding Memorial is a beautiful and significant stop for exploring Marion’s presidential history.
