OSU Marion Prairie Area

In 1987, the Ohio State University at Marion renewed efforts to develop scientific and educational programs for its reconstructed prairie. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources designated the campus a national landmark in 1988. Programs available.

Marion Tallgrass Trail

Enjoy cycling, running or walking on this trail that courses through a tallgrass prairie area. Recently completed, the now 12-mile trail touches the Hardin County line and features handicapped access to a fitness trail for all ages.

Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area

Wildlife area, 8627 acres, which lies in the grain farming country of North-Central Ohio. Fishing and hunting area. Eight miles South of Upper Sandusky. Wyandot County Road 115 provides access from State Route 294, two miles West of Harpster, and from State Route 309, eight miles West of Marion.

Big Island Wildlife Area

Five miles West of Marion on Ohio 95, the Big Island Wildlife Area is a birdwatchers’ paradise. Locate rare birds and prairie owls at this wetland area. Open year-round.

Shamrock Vineyard

Just a few miles East of Waldo, this third-generation winery produces over 2,000 gallons of wine each year. Enjoy a tour of the vineyard and winery, capped off with wine tasting of course.

Lawrence Orchards

This family-run orchard just two miles South of Marion specializes in apples, growing 26 varieties each season. Other produce includes various tree fruits, pumpkins, squash, Indian corn, gourds, horseradish, and Christmas trees. Open from June until Christmas with several special events, including the Applefest in September and Apple butter & Horseradish Day in October.
