America 250 Marion announces group outings to explore Marion County’s outdoor spaces

Marion, Ohio – The America 250 Marion steering committee is inviting residents and visitors to experience Marion County’s natural beauty through a series of guided group outings connected to the Marion County 250 app.

Available through the Apple App Store and Google Play, the Marion County 250 app features a new themed trail each month, encouraging participants to explore locations throughout Marion County while discovering stories that celebrate the community’s past and present.

June’s theme, Marion Outdoors: Exploring Marion’s Natural Resources, highlights 10 outdoor destinations across Marion County. To enhance the experience, theme co-leads Kate McCleese of the Marion Community Foundation and Bev Ford of the Marion Area Convention and Visitors Bureau partnered with fellow America 250 Marion steering committee members to create five guided outings at featured outdoor locations throughout the county.

The scheduled outings include:

  1. Marion Tallgrass Trail

    Sunday, June 7 | 10 a.m.

    Meet Kate McCleese at the trailhead, 2093 Holland Road West, for a guided stroll along the trail.

  2. Lincoln Park Leisure Path

    Thursday, June 18 | 10 a.m.

    Join Mayor Bill Collins in the Aquatic Center parking lot on the northeast side of Lincoln Park for a leisurely group walk around the park.

  3. Wicked Walt’s Mountain Bike Trail

    Thursday, June 18 | 6 p.m.

    Families are invited to enjoy a picnic and beginner-friendly ride with outing leader Mike Bodine. Participants should meet in the north parking lot of Quarry Park, 1202 Hillman Ford Road.

  4. Waldo Park Walking Path

    Saturday, June 20 | 6:30 p.m.

    Meet Mike Augenstein in the park parking lot, 275 West Main Street in Waldo, for a group walk along the community’s new walking path.

  5. Larry Yoder Prairie

    Saturday, June 27 | 6:30 p.m.

    James Anderson will lead an educational nature outing at the prairie. Participants should meet in Student Lot 3 North next to the Science and Engineering Building of the The Ohio State University at Marion campus, 1465 Mt. Vernon Avenue.

All outings are free and open to the public. Participants are welcome to attend one event or enjoy all five experiences throughout the month.
