Description: Explore three fascinating topics in Earth science during this three-part Adult Lifelong Learning course led by Dale Gnidovec, Collections Manager and Curator of OSU’s Orton Geological Museum. The first session examines continental drift and the development of the theory of plate tectonics, including the evidence that eventually supported it. The second explores geologic time, including the history of the Silurian and Devonian periods represented in Marion County and how scientists determine the ages of rocks and fossils. The third session examines evolution, how it occurs, and its theological, legal, and scientific aspects. Gnidovec cares for more than 90,000 specimens at the Orton Geological Museum and regularly speaks to schools, youth groups, libraries, parks, and community organizations. Registration and payment are required; stop by the Marion Public Library’s main desk for more information.
