The exciting two-day street festival returns to downtown La Rue this year and offers a variety of activities for everyone to enjoy, including food trucks, craft vendors, live music, inflatables, a beer garden, historical displays, and family-friendly activities. In celebration of the Village of La Rue’s 175th anniversary and America 250, this year’s event will feature additional live entertainment, special activities for children, and historical exhibits displayed throughout village buildings. Friday’s festivities will feature a car show and parade, while Saturday begins with a pancake breakfast, followed by a 5K run, tractor show, duck race, cow plop drop, and much more. Saturday’s parade will also honor nine families who are descendants of the village’s original founding families.

Event Dates: June 12 & 13, 2026

Oorang Bang History:

Over one hundred years ago, LaRue was home to an NFL franchise. For decades, this western Marion County village has been honoring that heritage. The aptly named Oorang Bang street fair is hosted the second week of June each year on Friday and Saturday in LaRue.

The Oorang Indians, an all-Native American football team, was owned by LaRue’s Walter Lingo, who also owned the world’s largest Airedale dog kennel and breeding facility within the village. To promote his dog business, Lingo bought into the fledgling NFL (only a couple of seasons into existence), hired all-time great Jim Thorpe to run the football operation that was to showcase only Native Americans, and sent them on a barnstorming tour of America over the course of two seasons.
