The Caledonia area will have two organizations celebrating veterans this coming Memorial Day: the Caledonia American Legion Worcester Post #401 and the Caledonia, OH Area History Group.
The Legion’s ceremony, which is a perennial event, will take place at the New Caledonia Cemetery from 2 pm to 3 pm.
Following the Legion’s ceremony, local historian Cody Higley will be offering a tour of the graves of the five soldiers who were killed while serving in the US Armed Forces who are buried in the cemetery. Personal stories of each of the five men will be shared as a special tribute to their ultimate sacrifice for this nation.
The two events are separate functions, but all are encouraged to attend both.
Memorial Day, which began in 1868 as a day to decorate the graves of the soldiers who were killed while serving in the American Civil War, is now a day on which many Americans visit cemeteries to decorate the graves of loved ones.
