MARION – The Marion County Park District will host the event “Paleontology in the Park” Saturday at Tallgrass Trail Nature Center, 2093 Holland Road W. This free program for all ages will take place from 1 to 5 p.m,

This year’s special guest is paleontologist and curator of OSU’s Orton Geological Museum, Dale Gnidovec.

Participants will also get to meet Rick Haver, an OSU-Marion student in 1976, who helped to excavate the remains of Marion’s own woolly mammoth within sight of the current Trail; and Carol Bowman who, as director of OSU-Marion’s science lab, has served as “keeper of the bones.”

Participants who complete at least four of the 10 activities will receive a free 450 million-year-old Ordovician fossil. Young children who dig in the Dino Dig will take home a small toy dinosaur.

The event features information on hunting fossils in Ohio, a dinosaur table game and dinosaur craft.
