The class will be held at the Killdeer Plains headquarters and begins at 6:30pm and will last into the darkness of the night since that is the best time to catch frogs. Realistically, the class will end between 11pm and midnight, but you can leave earlier if you choose. Division of Wildlife staff will cover topics including regulations, equipment, techniques, frog processing, and more. After the classroom portion, participants will test their newly acquired skills by frog gigging in the ponds and wetlands located in the wildlife area. Frog gigs will be provided. A valid fishing license is required to participate in the field portion for all individuals 16 years of age and older. Anyone 15 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the outdoors and wear old clothes, boots, or chest waders are preferred. There is a good chance you will get wet and a little dirty. Anyone with a canoe or similar boat is encouraged to bring it to access deeper portions of the wetlands. Be sure to bring life jackets and paddles. Additional equipment you should consider bringing includes bug spray, a headlight, a handheld flashlight, a small cooler with a shoulder strap to put your frogs in, and a change of clothes.
