Summer Reading Club 2018: Wednesdays Creative Writing for Teens & Adults @ Marion Public Library
Jul 11 @ 3:00 pm

This program is for anyone who is interested in creative writing and artistic expression. Whether you are an experienced writer, or a novice just starting out, you have a story to tell! And this program will help you find your voice to do just that. We will explore journaling, poetry, and novel writing, as well as other forms of writing, in inspiring, exciting ways. Participants will create a writer’s notebook that will help them tap into their creativity far beyond the duration of this program. An opportunity to become a part of a supportive writer’s community to share your writing is also a focus of this program.

Summer Reading Club 2018: Movement & Dance Storytime Fridays @ Marion Public Library
Jul 13 @ 10:00 am

Each Friday during Summer Reading Club, we’ll be celebrating the different ways Libraries Rock with a special movement and dance storytime for all ages. Get ready for your little ones to move to the beat and have a blast, without realizing they’re also supporting literacy! Learn tips and tricks to continue the fun at home every day!

Did you know that the movements and motions kids practice when they dance will also help with reading and writing later? When kids are jumping and dancing, their brains are practicing the coordination needed later to turn pages, write, and read.

Disney’s NEWSIES @ Marion Palace Theatre
Jul 13 @ 7:30 pm

The Marion Palace Theatre is fortunate to be among the first community theatres in the US to snag the performance rights for Disney’s NEWSIES. We are thrilled to bring this Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon to Marion, Ohio.

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, NEWSIES features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” NEWSIES is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience. Directed by Clare Cooke.

Main Stage | Tickets: $40 Patron; $18, $22 Adult; $12 Child age 12 & younger
