Disney’s NEWSIES @ Marion Palace Theatre
Jul 7 @ 7:30 pm

The Marion Palace Theatre is fortunate to be among the first community theatres in the US to snag the performance rights for Disney’s NEWSIES. We are thrilled to bring this Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon to Marion, Ohio.

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, NEWSIES features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” NEWSIES is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience. Directed by Clare Cooke.

Summer Reading Club 2018: Wednesdays Kids Create! @ Marion Public Library
Jul 11 @ 10:30 am

Summer Reading Club features incentives for kids who keep track of their reading over the summer, with prizes earned when they hit certain reading milestones.  Thousands of reading hours have been logged in each previous summer and community partnerships are a huge reason why the program is so successful.  Many local businesses contribute by donating coupons and freebies that serve as prizes for successful readers.

This fun-filled program combines art with creative writing, and allows the participants the chance to create original works of art and expression. Each week the program will focus on a different style of prose or poetry, with complimentary artwork. This flexibility allows the participants to attend one, or attend them all. Kids will play games and respond to writing prompts designed to spark their creativity. They will also create their own writer’s notebook, as well as complete several other creative projects throughout the course of the program.

Summer Reading Club 2018: Movement & Dance Storytime Fridays @ Marion Public Library
Jul 13 @ 10:00 am

Each Friday during Summer Reading Club, we’ll be celebrating the different ways Libraries Rock with a special movement and dance storytime for all ages. Get ready for your little ones to move to the beat and have a blast, without realizing they’re also supporting literacy! Learn tips and tricks to continue the fun at home every day!

Did you know that the movements and motions kids practice when they dance will also help with reading and writing later? When kids are jumping and dancing, their brains are practicing the coordination needed later to turn pages, write, and read.
