I am your typical college girl: big dreams and a teeny tiny wallet. I attend the perfect model-college, Ohio University, known for their notorious E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. I am in the middle of obtaining a degree in Strategic Communication with a specialization in Marketing and Tourism. On top of that, I am also in the midst of getting a certificate in social media. Long story short, I hope to become a public relations, advertising and social media pro come May 2016 when I graduate. I enjoy long walks on the beach but prefer leg day at the Marion Racquetball Club followed by an evening with Seinfeld and accompanied by kettle popcorn, green tea, and my fiancé, Kit.
How did a self-proclaimed Seinfeld specialist and tea connoisseur end up interning with the Marion Area Convention and Visitors Bureau? Well, that’s a good question. My end-all, be-all job is to do PR in the Tourism and Hospitality realm whether that be for a city, a resort, or even a fancy schmancy hotel. Being a Marion native made this Bureau an easy choice and a great first internship. I manage the social media accounts (Follow @VisitMarionOhio and like our Facebook page if you haven’t already!), interact with the public, and talk life with Diane and Bev, the Director and Associate Director. Now I am participating in The Amazing Treasures Scavenger Hunt with Vicky and get to write about it and couldn’t be more excited to get started. I am basically doing all the fun parts of PR.
It’s interesting knowing that I have lived in Marion for 20 years and have yet to really know what it has to offer other than really good Mexican restaurants (<33). My adventures for the summer include the Women’s Club Home/Barlow Art Center, the Harding Home, the Wyandot Popcorn Museum in Heritage Hall, the Owl Creek Trail, and Marion Airfoils, just to name a few. You can trust me to keep you up-to-date with my honest opinions of my experience as a newbee to some of Marion’s best kept secrets (and you better believe I will include selfies of me enjoying every minute of it). I look forward to seeing my community in a new way as well as connecting and motivating others to do the same!
Cheers my fellow Marion folk!
